In-Service EducationAs you are well aware, some of the most challenging and frustrating students for teachers and administrators to manage effectively in the school environment are those with ADD/ADHD. These students' symptoms of inattentiveness, distractibility, and sometimes hyperactivity, can seriously interfere with their ability to learn productively and behave appropriately in the classroom. Their problems can also affect the other students in the classroom. Current research estimates that between 5-6% of our school population suffers from this disorder (for instance, that's one student per each class of twenty), but agree that they take a far greater proportion of staff time and effort. What can be done to help staff deal effectively with these students? It has been demonstrated that early identification and intervention can significantly improve the educational, social and emotional outcomes for AD(H)D children. With this need in mind, our chapter of the national, not-for-profit organization, CHADD., is offering in-service education programs for staff and administrators. Multi-sensory instruction and other strategies that work for ADHD students will be presented. These 1-3 hour, multimedia presentations, complete with handouts, have been well received by other schools in the county. We make every effort to accommodate your scheduling needs. A fee of $300, payable to CHADD of Bergen County, will be charged to cover costs. Credit hours will be given through the provider system regarding credit hours. For Additional information, please call CHADD at (201) 664-1313, and ask about our in-service education programs. We look forward to hearing from you. Back to Top |
